AIX & Power HA Engineer

Job Summary:

Overview
As an AIX & Power HA Engineer, you will be responsible for managing and
administering AIX (Advanced Interactive eXecutive) operating systems and
implementing Power HA (formerly HACMP) for high availability and disaster recovery
solutions. You will work closely with the infrastructure team to design, deploy, and
maintain AIX and Power HA environments, ensuring the stability, performance, and
availability of critical systems.
Responsibilities
Administer AIX operating systems, including installation, configuration, and
maintenance.
Design, implement, and manage Power HA clusters for high availability and disaster
recovery.
Monitor and troubleshoot AIX and Power HA environments to identify and resolve
performance issues, system crashes, and other technical problems.
Collaborate with other IT teams, such as network and storage teams, to ensure
seamless integration and optimal performance of AIX and Power HA environments.
Develop and maintain documentation, including system configurations, standard
operating procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
Conduct regular system audits to ensure compliance with security and regulatory
requirements.
Plan and execute system upgrades and patch management for AIX and Power HA
environments.
Implement and maintain backup and recovery strategies for AIX and Power HA
systems.
Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies related to AIX and
Power HA, and make recommendations for system enhancements and improvements.
Participate in on-call rotations to provide 24/7 support for critical issues and
emergencies.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or
equivalent experience).
Proven experience as an AIX Administrator, with expertise in managing AIX operating
systems.
Strong knowledge of Power HA (HACMP) and experience in designing, implementing,
and managing Power HA clusters.
Proficiency in scripting languages, such as Shell scripting or Perl, to automate tasks and
improve efficiency.
Familiarity with networking concepts and protocols, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and
VLANs.
Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to analyze and
resolve complex technical issues.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate
with cross-functional teams and communicate technical information to non-technical
stakeholders.
Experience in backup and recovery strategies for AIX and Power HA systems.
Relevant certifications, such as IBM Certified System Administrator – AIX or IBM
Certified Specialist – PowerHA SystemMirror, are a plus.
